Faceless Video Studio

Faceless Video Studio

A one-person studio that makes animated doodle videos for its own YouTube channels. It uses two small tools with Google's YouTube APIs, described below. Neither tool is offered to the public, and there is no sign-up.

The uploader

A program on the owner's computer that uploads the studio's finished videos to the studio's own YouTube channels, with their titles, descriptions, tags and thumbnails. It checks the signed-in channel's name before every upload, and the owner approves each one.

Google data it uses: permission to upload and manage the owner's own videos (YouTube scopes youtube.upload and youtube), to publish videos and set their thumbnails and playlists, and the channel's name and ID, to make sure each video goes to the right channel. Its sign-in token stays on the owner's computer.

The dashboard

A private web page that shows the owner how the studio's videos perform: views, watch time, audience retention, impressions, click-through rate, subscribers and, for monetized channels, estimated revenue, per channel and per video. It also keeps the owner's own production notes, such as hours spent per video.

Google data it uses: read-only access to the owner's channel and video statistics (youtube.readonly, yt-analytics.readonly, yt-analytics-monetary.readonly), to show those numbers, and the email address of the Google account that signs in (openid, email), to check that it is the owner. Nothing is ever posted, changed or deleted on YouTube by the dashboard.

Your data

The tools only work with the owner's own channels. They never access viewers' personal data or anyone else's account, and the studio never sells or shares Google user data. The privacy policy explains what is stored, for how long, and how to revoke access.
